Activating the power of people towards sustainable change.

WE provide leadership for local and statewide work for systemic change and assist with the building of a statewide network for legislative action.

Many people who participate in JustFaith and attend our forums are compelled to take further action by advocating for change. Village Engage provides avenues for action.

Participants have started letter-writing campaigns to elected officials regarding conditions at the US southern border; have expressed outrage to public utility companies over neglected toxic waste sites in marginalized communities; have changed investment strategies to eliminate for-profit prison systems from their portfolios; have collaborated with Homes of Hope to address affordable housing; have advocated at Greenville County Council for increased funding to public transportation.

Advocates for Better Public Transportation

In one specific case of action, a JustFaith group meeting at Christ Church Episcopal volunteered to ride buses in the Greenville public transportation system in order to conduct one-on-one dialogue sessions with bus riders. The group conducted surveys that had been prepared by the Piedmont Health Foundation by talking to Greenlink customers.

Members of the JustFaith group heard stories about the many difficulties and gaps within the Greenlink transportation system. The experience was profound — and moved several members of the group to advocate for improved bus service and increased funding for Greenville’s public transportation system. One group member, Julianne Cruce, even spoke in front of Greenville County Council on behalf of those who could not attend — simply because the current bus service could not accommodate their attendance at the meeting.

Due in part to this JustFaith group’s advocacy efforts, Greenville County Council approved a budget that significantly increased funding to Greenlink.
